Alejandro Mayorkas and his clowns are in charge, as they scramble to prepare for the lifting of Title 42. The ringmaster-in-chief just learned, as he was jetting off to hide from news programs in the Virgin Islands, that SCOTUS put the brakes on that until at least February.
A big tent in the desert
Seriously, while they resemble a basic tent, tension fabric enclosures are a safe and secure option for temporary or permanent structures, even massive ones. This unit, “bigger than a football field,” is being “being thrown up by the US Border Patrol as El Paso prepares for a human tidal wave to cross the border.”
Title 42 isn’t going to end any moment as expected but the invading migrants aren’t about to wait until February, either.
One of the things they are telling the massed migrants on the other side of the fence is that jumping the border means you won’t be allowed in the tent. The invaders aren’t listening.

They weren’t listening before when told that they wouldn’t be allowed into the convention center shelter without proper paperwork, either. That’s why so many were freezing like polar bears in the streets of El Paso over the Christmas holiday.
According to a spokesperson for Domestic Security Minister Mayorkas, the “makeshift facility northeast of downtown will serve as an overflow processing center when Title 42 expires.” They were hoping to get the good news “as soon as this week.”
Then, they got word from SCOTUS that nothing will happen before February, at the soonest. Migrants hoping to get processed through that tent aren’t liking the sight of razor wire along their favorite crossing spot.

El Paso overwhelmed already
The razor wire, combined with a major crackdown on a major transfer point for smugglers by the Texas National Guard, has finally slowed the number of crossings to something more manageable.
When the Trump era policy eventually does end, “as 5,000 migrants per day are anticipated to enter the city.” Those are the lucky ones. That’s why they need such a big tent.
“It’s still going to get worse before it even gets better, and that’s what we’re preparing for,” El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser proclaimed December 23. “That’s what I call the unknown.” Right now, Border Patrol has capacity to run 1,400 a day through processing. When 5,000 or so flood through, the whole system will melt.

Deputy City Manager Mario D’Agostino relates that, “with this surge, they know that they will not be able to hold it.” They built their big tent, then just like the ones just like it built by Eric Adams to house migrants, this structure will sit empty.
Officials are estimating that “as many as 20,000 migrants are waiting in Mexico, hoping to gain entry into the US after Title 42 goes away.” They checked out of hotel rooms, headed for the border, and learned it isn’t going away as scheduled.
The migrants aren’t willing to wait for a spot in the tent. As they flood like a herd of lemmings to the normal crossing points, they’re suddenly confused by razor wire and armed guards. They aren’t sure what they’re going to do but nobody is walking back to Venezuela, either.
