Former President Donald Trump’s political action committee has announced this week that it now has a stash of $122 million accumulated after only one year out of office. This report effectively confirms that, unless the situation drastically changes somehow, no other Republican candidates will be able to directly challenge Trump for the nomination in 2024. Before that, the former president will be putting his money and influence to use in the 2022 midterm elections.

Trump’s PAC brings in millions

Most of the largest corporations in the United States have firmly rejected Trump and other politicians who are aligned with his ideology.

Instead of ending Trump and the Republican Party, this has forced a shift to relying on small donations from supporters in the general public.

For Trump’s Save America PAC, this strategy has been a resounding success both as a fundraising method and as a warning to any Republican who might think they can run against him for the nomination.

His Make America Great Again, Again! super PAC accumulated a respectable $9.5 million by the end of 2021 with large contributions from a small number of wealthy donors.

The Save America PAC collected more than ten times that amount with 1,631,648 individual donations averaging $31 each. $ 51 million was raised in the second half of 2021 alone.

One of the more powerful tools available to the PAC is its massive network of email and social media accounts, which it can directly solicit to ask for continued donations from individuals.

Well positioned for 2022 and 2024

The organization has spent only a fraction of the amount raised, with much of that going to former aides and advisors and a small amount going to other Republican candidates.

As the midterm elections approach, the spending will likely begin in earnest; Trump has certainly proved that he can raise money, now he has to convert that money into political power by helping friendly candidates win their races.

Trump has already endorsed a number of primary challengers hoping to unseat Republicans who voted for his second impeachment or have otherwise been vocal opponents.

An endorsement alone would give a powerful boost to any campaign, but with Save America PAC money available , support from the former president will be even more lucrative.

The PAC cannot pour huge amounts of money directly into the campaigns of these candidates, but it can spend freely on advertisements for them, which is where most of the spent funds will likely go.

Spending his been very limited so far, but in 2022 the PAC will have to start putting its collected money to use; saving money for 2024 isn’t good enough for Trump, who needs to maintain his influence until the presidential race can begin.
