Donald Trump just took a shot on the chin.

This has not been a good couple of days for Donald Trump.

Although he is doing well in polls, he has taken a couple of hits that could hurt him in the next round of polling.

Bad Weekend

First, there was the weekend interview with Bret Baier on Fox News.

If I am giving you my honest opinion, that interview was a mistake for Trump.

He was not ready for Baier’s questions and seemed almost unhinged at times.

Trump continued to press that he won the 2020 election by a large margin even though, as Baier pointed out, Trump-appointed judges have ruled against him.

Trump’s answer as to why he continued to hold classified documents was also weak, claiming he had clothes and other personal items in those boxes.

The answer was timid at best, and Trump did not come off as believing a word he was saying.

I think the worst moment of the interview, however, was when Baier ripped off all the former staff members that Trump has insulted either while in office or after having left office.

Trump claimed that for every bad hire, he had 10 that were excellent, later saying he could name 20 people to counter every person that Baier offered up, but he failed to mention a single name.

Next up was the largest police union on Florida bailing on Trump.

Florida Police Benevolent Association supported Trump in 2020, but it is pulling back and going for DeSantis in 2024.

Florida Police Benevolent Association President John Kazanjian, in backing DeSantis, stated that “the choice could not be clearer.”

He added, “In major cities and communities across America, many Americans are grappling with increased crime rates that not only jeopardize public safety, but also threaten the quality of life in their communities.

“The ideological experiment of defunding the police and scapegoating law enforcement for America’s social problems has failed.”

He would go on to describe DeSantis as the “one candidate for president who has a proven track record in enhancing public safety and investing in the essential men and women who help maintain public safety every day.

“For the over 30,000 men and women in the Florida Police Benevolent Association, the choice for us could not be clearer.”

DeSantis has been falling in the polls ever since he announced, which has baffled many pollsters considering Donald Trump’s legal issues.

Will this help DeSantis and give him a bump? Only time will answer that question.

This is not about Trump’s policies… it never has been.

Conservatives, by and large, supported and loved Trump’s policies, but it is all the drama and the circus sideshow that comes with that that has driven voters away from Trump.

His base is solid, and it will be enough to win him the nomination in a very crowded GOP primary field, but can he win the general election?

That is the question that remains burning for Republicans as we get closer to the first primary votes being cast.
