Shop NowThe North Carolina Supreme Court dealt a death blow to the GOP in terms of securing our elections.
The court struck down a 2018 voter ID law that required ID to be shown to cast a vote.
Sadly, if it had taken just a few more weeks for this case to come before the court, the law would have been upheld.
No ID
The law was challenged on the basis of discrimination.
Opponents of the legislation believe it is racist to require an ID to cast a ballot.
They do not say it is racist to have a license to drive, or an ID to buy alcohol or tobacco, or to cash a check or travel.
Yet, to check a box, it is racist.
The ruling by the North Carolina Supreme Court, currently made up of four Democrats and three Republicans, was that the policy “was motivated by a racially discriminatory purpose.”
Additionally, the court ruled that the newly drawn district lines were gerrymandering, so they also have to be redrawn.
Come January, the new court make-up will be five Republicans and two Democrats.
