It was a hot summer night in the Midwood section of Brooklyn.
At around 11:15 pm, tragedy struck when a 28 year old man at the Mobil gas station was stabbed to death by an unknown assailant who claimed that his and his friends’ antics were offensive to the murderer’s Muslim faith.
The incident has been investigated as a possible hate crime by the NYPD.
Witness Summy Ullah, 32, described what happened when the group of five men pulled up in their white sedan.
One of them wearing only tight trunks began dancing exuberantly – which is when a group of men exiting the Mobil station started harassing them for doing so and claiming that it was offensive to their Muslim faith.
Ullah recounts how he attempted to defuse the situation with words but it seemed like nothing would get through to either party involved.
He then says he heard one member of the victim’s group say “You like girls, you look like you’re into girls, but we are not into girls. We have our own life. We can do whatever we want, you know. We’re dancing, that’s our life.”
This statement seemed to incite further anger from those involved as one man continued recording them on his cellphone while hurling insults at them – which is when things took a deadly turn quickly.
The video shows how suddenly and shockingly fast it happened: with everyone still stunned and gathered around him after he had been stabbed in the torso by his attacker who then ran away down Coney Island Ave.
Despite being rushed immediately to Maimonides Medical Center, sadly the man could not be saved and died shortly after arriving there.
The killer remains at large as police search for clues about him or any information they can find about this awful incident at various spots near where it occurred including inside a smoke shop located down the block from where this all unfolded.
