It’s official: Dov Hikind, a New York State Assemblyman and long-time Jewish community leader who represented his Brooklyn constituents for 35 years, has switched his party affiliation from Democrat to Republican.
Hikind and his wife Shani made this announcement on Twitter with a short video in which they explained their decision to abandon the “rat-infested Democratic Party ship”.
IT’S OFFICIAL: My wife and I have switched our party affiliation from Democrat to Republican!
Ppl have long been asking, “Dov, when are you gonna leave the Democratic Party?”
Well, the time has come bc the Dems have turned their back on Jews & Israel, so it’s officially done! pic.twitter.com/VAlGaaALDO

In the video, Hikind stated that he had been a lifelong Democrat, but that the party had become increasingly radicalized and was no longer welcoming of moderate or conservative views.
He spoke about how today’s Democrats have turned their back on Jews and Israel, pointing out how the Biden regime has made major breaks from former President Donald J. Trump’s policies towards Israel.
Although he expressed sadness at leaving the Democratic Party which his parents were so proud of, Hikind said he felt it necessary to make this statement in order to send a message – both to the Biden administration and to the Democratic Party as a whole – that they are losing support due to not representing American values or interests.
Along with being an Assemblyman for 35 years, Hikind is also the founder of Americans Against Antisemitism (AAA), an organization dedicated to standing up against hate and holding those who indulge in antisemitism accountable.
Recent events have only strengthened AAA’s mission as nine House Democrats including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) refused to vote for a resolution affirming support for Israel when Israeli President Isaac Herzog spoke before Congress last year.
Ocasio-Cortez also boycotted Herzog’s speech along with her fellow Squad members Reps Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) and Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.).
In response, Herzog warned against crossing lines into negating Israel’s right to exist during his address while condemning anti-Semitism as unacceptable behavior in any form or fashion.
