They have called on Barack Obama to help them fight the alleged “book ban” policies of the right.
Well, Governor Ron DeSantis had a little something to say about that.
Dust Him Off
Whenever the tide is rolling against the Democrats, they usually ask Obama to step in and help.
He did that in the form of a TikTok video for the Kankakee Public Library in Illinois.
Obama did the video to call out Republicans for this misreported book ban policy.
Obama called these efforts “profoundly misguided,” even though he grossly mischaracterized what Republicans are doing.
He also wrote a letter to librarians on the subject that was, of course, publicly published.
The letter, in part, stated, “Today, some of the books that shaped my life—and the lives of so many others—are being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives.
“It’s no coincidence that these ‘banned books’ are often written by or feature people of color, Indigenous people, and members of the LGBTQ+ community—though there have also been unfortunate instances in which books by conservative authors or books containing ‘triggering’ scenes have been targets for removal.”
Governor Ron DeSantis responded, “They are doing that to try to create a narrative, they’re not doing that because Florida has a law.
“They’re doing it because they know there is enough people in corporate media who will just take that, and run with that… if it is explicit and pornographic, parents have the right to object.”
This is about parents having the right to ensure their children are seeing age-appropriate content… nothing else.
