Matt Gaetz Forms Unusual Partnership to Kick Out McCarthy

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) was dragging his feet on the impeachment inquiry.

It was making some members of the caucus a bit anxious, one of those being Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).

Gaetz has taken to social media to start putting pressure on McCarthy, teasing a possible removal of the House Speaker.

Time to Go

Gaetz is deeply embedded in Trump’s camp, so having him push the impeachment is not really a surprise.

Being so vocal about removing McCarthy, however, is a bit of a power move.

This is especially true since McCarthy and Trump are also allies.

Gaetz reached out to, of all people, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA).

In his message, he was asking Swalwell to partner up with him to have McCarthy removed.

He wrote, “Hi, Eric. If I make a motion to remove Kevin, how many Democrat votes can I count on? Asking for a friend….”

For his part, McCarthy started getting testy, daring Gaetz to make a motion to have him removed.

It would be interesting to see this plays out, however.

Up to this point, Democrats really had no beef with McCarthy, but now that McCarthy has launched the impeachment inquiry, that could change things.

I just cannot help but think that the GOP is going down this path again to screw up 2024 the same way they screwed up the last two elections.
