South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem is not having a very good time of it right now.
She has more than likely been booted as Trump’s VP, and now she cannot even travel on roughly 20% of the lands in her own state.
That would be because Native American tribes have banned her from their grounds.
Can’t Say That
Noem has always had a bit of a contentious relationship with the Native American tribes in South Dakota.
The South Dakota governor was already facing bans from several local tribes, and after recent comments, two more have joined that ban.
After a special meeting took place last week, Noem is now banned on the lands of the Yankton Sioux, Sisseton-Wahpeton Ovate, Oglala, Rosebud, Cheyenne River, and Standing Rock Sioux.
The original bans were for comments that Noem made in March regarding the cartels and the tribes.
She stated, “We’ve got some tribal leaders that I believe are personally benefiting from the cartels being there, and that’s why they attack me every day.
“But I’m going to fight for the people who actually live in those situations, who call me and text me every day and say, ‘Please, dear governor, please come help us in Pine Ridge. We are scared.’”
Then, last week, she posted on X, stating, “Tribal leaders should take action to ban the cartels from their lands and accept my offer to help them restore law and order to their communities while protecting their sovereignty.”
This is just not a good look for Noem.
Some political pundits believe she did this on purpose to distract from the dog-killing story, but having Native American tribes mad at you is, politically speaking, far worse than upsetting animal lovers.
Either way, Noem is now 0-2, and it is a safe bet to say that once she leaves office, she is going to have a hard time finding another electable position.
