Shop NowFulton County, GA, DA Fani Willis just threw a curve ball at Donald Trump’s attorneys.
Willis has switched up the trial date on Trump.
Instead of her original March trial date, she is now looking to get things rolling in October.
Too Soon
Trump’s attorneys were going to try to get the March trial pushed, so their reaction to this date was expected.
The filing to have the date pushed back stated, “President Trump further respectfully puts the Court on notice that he requests the Court set a scheduling conference at its earliest convenience so he can be heard on the State’s motions for entry of pretrial scheduling order and to specially set trial.”
This date is a major problem for Trump if he is found guilty.
If she gets her October trial date, that means the trial will be concluded sometime in November or early December.
There is generally a small delay of about one to three months from trial to sentencing.
So, if Trump is found guilty, we would expect sentencing to be before Super Tuesday.
Point being, there is now a very real chance that Trump will be in prison when voting starts for the primary, and that will take a toll on supporters who are not in his base.
I don’t think a prison sentence would deter them from voting for Trump, but moderates and independents will surely be looking elsewhere.
Trump needs to beat this case in court or it could end his quest to get back to the White House.
