In a move that stands against the ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) agenda, CNBC reports that this seven-figure deal is sure to spark some controversy.
The Heritage Foundation notes that the ESG movement pushes companies to take stances on political issues that might not have anything to do with their core business activities. Examples include actions against gun rights and fossil fuels.
They also indicate that those who advocate for these policies use shareholders’ money to promote their causes, often times for personal gain or virtue signaling from senior executives.
A scholar from The Heritage Institution argued that this movement risks weaponizing and politicizing the private sector against enemies or causes which are disliked by the left.
Another scholar compared it to a credit score – if you don’t “score high enough on their woke meter” you could be cancelled.
