Fans nationwide are mourning the sudden and unexpected death of celebrity chef Michael Chiarello, who passed away at the age of 61. The Food Network star is said to have died from an ‘acute allergic reaction’.
Gruppo Chiarello, the late chef’s company, released a statement confirming that he passed away at Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa after being treated for an acute allergic reaction that led to anaphylactic shock. His family asked for privacy during this difficult time.

In their statement, his family said “We deeply mourn the loss of our beloved patriarch Michael. His culinary brilliance, boundless creativity, and unwavering commitment to family were at the core of his being. He brought people together through the joy of shared meals, fostering lasting memories around the table.”
Michael hosted shows on PBS and Food Network and earned a Daytime Emmy in 2003 for his show “Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello.” He also appeared in episodes of “Top Chef” and “Top Chef Masters”.
Born in Red Bluff California in 1962, he attended Culinary Institute America before being named Food & Wine Magazine’s chef of the year award three years later. After graduating he opened critically acclaimed restaurant Tra Vigne before going on to open Bottega Coqueta and Ottimo restaurants as well as venturing into winemaking with Chiarello Family vineyards and creating NapaStyle which sold artisanal foods kitchenware and home products.
His longtime partners said “As we navigate this profound loss, we hold dear the moments we cherished with him both in his kitchens and our hearts. His legacy will forever live on in love he poured into every dish and the passion he instilled in all of us to savor life’s flavors.” In lieu of flowers they asked donations be made to Meals On Wheels.
