According to Faux News, Imperial Leader Joe Biden is blowing more than $332 billion this year on zombie programs. Ones that “expired” and weren’t “reauthorized by Congress.” Some have been illegally funded for decades. Conservative Cathy McMorris Rodgers is ready to cut the purse strings.
Blowing Billions on zombies
Americans have long suspected that the National Weather Service was staffed by zombies, now we know for sure they are. So are the FBI, ATF, and the State Department, just to name a few. One conservative lawmaker just blew the whistle on a third-of-a-trillion bucks worth of illegal spending, for this year alone. Congress hasn’t been doing their job for decades.
They’re a little behind in “reauthorizing” the federal programs they are responsible for. For instance, the National Weather Service expired in 1993. Just because the weather forecasts and other information they still get paid to produce isn’t totally blowing the money, this shows that congress hasn’t tried to trim out any bureaucratic waste at all through oversight of the program for nearly 20 years now. Who knows what useless things the taxpayer is really funding.
Some of the expired programs are cases which looks like blowing money in the wind. The Appalachian Regional Commission does not seem to be producing much in the way of meaningful results for those in the region. Conservatives go from irate to angry when the subject of the National Endowment for the Arts comes up and isn’t much friendlier about news of the National Endowment for the Humanities. Second Amendment loving Americans could live without the United States Institute of Peace.
Each and every federal program is put in place to serve a need. They expire for a reason. If the need can better be fulfilled by letting the private sector handle it, then that’s what should happen. Programs that have served their usefulness should end, not continue building bureaucratic fiefdoms.
As of the last count, there are 1,046 federal programs which have “expired but continue to receive annual funds without Congress reauthorizing them.” A third of a trillion bucks worth, which is a nice haul to find lurking under the couch cushions during the Covid-19 induced recession.
Instead, Imperial Leader Joe Biden blows it on frivolous things like funding “Q-Anon” operations covertly for the Federal Bureau of Instigation. Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, even Mike Pompeo got to run around the State Department and do as they pleased because they’ve been under their own authority since 2003. Now you know where all the mind blowing pallets of cash to airlift over to the Ayatollah came from.
Not exercising its oversight authority
Congress is blowing it big time when it comes to doing their job. The NWS isn’t even close to being the record holder for expired authority length. The last time the Federal Election Commission was authorized was all the way back in 1981 under Ronald Reagan. “If Congress is not exercising its oversight authority, we will have more waste fraud and abuse,” Jonathan Bydlak warns.
The director of governance at the R Street Institute explains, “maybe the expired programs are not wasteful, but how would we know if Congress isn’t doing its job? An entire program may not be wasteful, but a function within that department might be. We don’t know because Congress doesn’t have a process in place to evaluate its relevance.”
Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers isn’t blowing the chance to do something about it. She introduced the Unauthorized Spending Accountability (USA) Act. She’s determined to pull the plug on the robot to cut down on this “autopilot” spending.
“We have a fiscal crisis in America today. Too much of the federal government is on autopilot, and it’s up to Congress to address it,” she announced in an official statement. “The USA Act is simple — it makes sure that every penny of taxpayer money is subject to the scrutiny of the American people who are footing the bill.”
Congress is blowing it and that simply cannot continue. “It means effectively reviewing, rethinking, and possibly eliminating programs that are no longer needed. It’s time for Congress to restore the power of the purse and end unauthorized spending.”
She’s not going to put all the FBI agents on the unemployment list any time soon though. She’s got a great suggestion. “The bill would gradually defund programs that have not been reauthorized over a span of three years, forcing Congress to act.” That makes way too much sense to pass in a Democrat controlled, post-constitutional, open-borders, new world order though.
