President Donald Trump got negotiations to end the Ukraine war off to a rolling start. He reached out to Vladimir Putin with a good faith offer of major concessions. Putin was reportedly visibly pleased to hear what Trump had to say. That doesn’t mean, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth assured a nervous NATO, that it’s a “dirty deal” being struck to end the war “on terms favorable to Moscow without Kyiv’s involvement.

Ukraine not sidelined

As soon as President Trump hung up after a “lengthy and highly productive” phone call about Ukraine with Vlad Putin, news of what he had to say “sparked fears in Europe.

Trump’s moves were a brilliant way to open negotiations. By assuring Putin that we won’t stake out a military presence on his doorstep, it gives Russia a reason for pulling troops back out of Ukraine.

Ukraine hasn’t been iced out of talks involving their own fate

Otherwise, he would need to keep occupying every inch he grabbed. Zelenskyy and his people just want things to go back to the way they were before they were invaded.

Ukraine hasn’t been iced out of talks involving their own fate, the administration insists. Zelenskyy will be there for all the important meetings and he’ll be kept in the loop.

They’ll end up doing much better in the long run by allowing Trump to handle the negotiations for them. Putin has been looking for an exit strategy to get out of Ukraine. Trump’s holding the door open and saying right this way…
