Shop NowSenator Dianne Feinstein of California, the oldest senator currently serving, is facing calls to resign due to news that she gave power of attorney to her daughter.
This decision has been met with scrutiny as it comes in the middle of a feud between Feinstein’s daughter Katherine and the three children of Richard Blum, Feinstein’s late husband who passed away last year.
Earlier this year, Feinstein was forced to take time away from Senate activities as she recovered from shingles.
Her absence put a stop Democrats’ attempts at confirming some of President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees who lacked Republican support.
When she returned to work in the Senate it seemed as though she had difficulty recalling her absence according to an interview with Slate.
She also struggled at times with understanding basic questions asked by reporters.
During a recent vote in the Senate Appropriations Committee Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) instructed her how to vote when supporting a bill.
Katherine Feinstein has taken on power of attorney for her mother and is involved in two lawsuits concerning assets belonging to Senator Feinstein.
In one case they are debating Mrs. Feinstein’s wish to sell a beach house located in San Francisco while another involves money from Richard Blum’s life insurance policy.
The first lawsuit claims that beach house is not being maintained properly and accuses Blum’s children of limiting Mrs. Feinstein’s ability to sell off parts of her trust.
Meanwhile, the second lawsuit states that Mrs. Feinstein has incurred considerable medical expenses which have not been reimbursed despite Mr. Blum’s intention for his spouse after his death – something trustees allegedly refused payment for without providing documentation or explanation why such action was necessary given Mrs. Feinstein is a sitting US Senator.
The news surrounding Senator Dianne Feinstein has spurred renewed calls for resignation however no official statement has been made yet on whether or not she will step down from senate duties despite concerns over her physical health and mental acuity.
