President Donald Trump is reportedly planning to sign a presidential memorandum calling on the Department of Justice (DOJ) to investigate ActBlue for unlawful activities that include fraudulent donations under false names.

An exposé from O’Keefe Media Group last year showed that there were thousands of donations made to ActBlue using “straw” or “dummy” donors. James O’Keefe personally visited the homes of numerous people who supposedly donated to ActBlue thousands of times within a year’s time, including one woman who supposedly made “1,600 donations totaling $13,000, including 53 transactions in a single day,” according to O’Keefe. None of the people he visited had actually made more than a few donations to the Democrat fundraising platform.

These revelations, along with numerous other reports, have led to public outcry for the Trump administration to investigate ActBlue for its nefarious actions.

Trump’s memorandum will direct U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and the DOJ to crack down these illegal “straw donor” contributions, as well as investigate reports about foreign contributions being made to Democrat politicians via ActBlue.

The order also specifically cites a congressional investigation that showed “significant fraud schemes” conducted via ActBlue, along with hundreds of donations from the 2024 election that were confirmed to have originated from foreign IP addresses using prepaid cards, which happened despite the fact that it is “illegal for foreign nations to contribute to U.S. elections.”

According to the White House, this order is designed to address concerns about “malign actors and foreign nationals” attempting to “illegally influence American elections.” The White House also argued that there is evidence that these online fundraising platforms are being used to “launder excessive and prohibited contributions to political candidates and committees.”

Apparently, ActBlue was already aware that Trump planned to take this action, as CEO Regina Wallace Jones sent an email to “trusted friends of ActBlue” on April 23 warning “that the Trump administration was going to issue an Executive Order (EO) aimed at ActBlue,” and assuring email recipients that “Our team sprung into action and made every preparation from a legal and communications perspective.”

“We are ready for whatever is next from the Far Right,” she claimed, adding that “we feel the weight of democracy resting on our shoulders.”
