Shop NowNew York City Mayor Eric Adams is dialing up the pressure on Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
Adams all but called Abbott a racist in his latest pleas for migrants to stop coming to New York City.
The irony of all this is that NYC is a sanctuary city.
Suck It Up, Buttercup
Adams is fuming because Abbott has sent a few thousand people to New York City.
Collectively, for all the migrants that have been bussed to various cities around the country, it would account for less than a week of what Texas has been seeing over the last two years.
Adams is now hiding charges of racism against Abbott by saying that he is only sending migrants to mayors that are black.
Adams stated, “This weekend, we learned that Governor Abbott is once again deciding to play politics with people’s lives by resuming the busing of asylum seekers to New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Denver, and Washington, D.C.
“Not only is this behavior morally bankrupt and devoid of any concern for the well-being of asylum seekers, but it is also impossible to ignore the fact that Abbott is now targeting five cities run by Black mayors.
“Put plainly, Abbott is using this crisis to hurt Black-run cities.”
Adams concluded, “Despite Abbott’s inhumane actions, New York City will continue to do all it can to handle this influx, but this crisis is more than one city can handle.
“With a vacuum of leadership from border states, we need the federal government to step in and provide us with support and to prevent this cruelty from continuing.”
So, I have a few things to say about that.
First, your city is a sanctuary city, so it is not Abbott’s fault if black mayors are running sanctuary cities in this country.
Second, you are insinuating that these migrants are absorbing too much of the city’s resources and destroying your city, yet you are the ones openly calling for them to be allowed.
You see, you don’t get to have it both ways here.
You either want them and they are wonderful people or an unregulated flow is responsible for overwhelming a city, which is the entire point of Abbott’s little exercise here.
If New York City, a city with far more resources than border cities in Texas, is being stretched, how do think those border cities are faring?
I would say that even though Adams is trying to portray Abbott as a racist here, what he actually did was make Abbott’s point for him.
