That being the case, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) will be retiring as the Speaker of the House.
She may even decide to step away altogether.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has already announced that he will be running for Speaker.
The question is, does McCarthy have the support to win with just a small majority?
He appealed to his caucus to make his case.
McCarthy wrote, “Over the past century, Republicans had flipped the House from Democrats just four times: 1946, 1952, 1994 and 2010.
“Only twice did that flip occur in four years or less.
“This was the most expensive and arguably the most competitive House midterm in America’s history.
“Yet in a hard-fought contest, our message and our candidates prevailed, winning key seats across the country, some in districts that President Biden carried just two years ago by double digits… This is no small feat.”
He continued, “I trust you know that earning the majority is only the beginning. Now, we will be measured by what we do with our majority.
“Now, the real work begins.
“That is why I am running to serve as Speaker of the People’s House and humbly ask for your support.”
The one question that has to be answered is if McCarthy has the backbone to stand up to Biden and the Senate leader when he has leverage on mandatory budgetary bills.
McConnell sure does not have it, and Paul Ryan never had it… but that is what we need to see.
If you are going to give in, you better get something for it.
