Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is off to a very good start as Speaker.

There were a lot of questions as to whether McCarthy could get the entire party behind the new rules.

He did not get the whole party behind the new rules package, but he got enough to get it passed.

This is a big win for McCarthy to get his party started.

Nice Job

I have not been shy about questioning McCarthy as the right leader of this group.

I question if he has enough backbone to stand up to the establishment types when things really get tough.

For now, however, he has started okay.

The new rules package passed the House with a vote of 220-213, with only Rep. Tony Gonzalez (R-TX) voting with Democrats.

Several new rules in place will be game-changers, starting with no more proxy voting.

They have also made a rule that no legislation that will create an increase in mandatory spending over five or 10 years cannot hit the floor.

The Freedom Caucus also got three seats on the rules committee, which dictates how bills are put on the floor and how amendments are made to legislation, which is a key issue of mine.

So far, so good.
