Massive Manhunt In Progress For Escaped Inmate

A massive Manhunt is underway in Georgia. Fox News Digital has reported that the Police are conducting a manhunt near the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport. The tremendous effort by law enforcement is due to an inmate’s escape. The inmate was being extradited when he escaped police custody.

The Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that Joseph H. Baynes was in the process of being extradited to Dakota County, Minnesota. At around 1:30 pm on August 3, Baynes escaped police custody at the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport in Georgia.

Police remained vague on the details only releasing a statement that said Baynes “at some point” escaped police custody and disappeared.

The statement released by the police claimed that Baynes is wanted on felony stalking charges in Dakota County, Minnesota. 

Law enforcement officials told the press that Baynes, who was in custody at the Bulloch County Jail, signed a waiver of extradition to return to Minnesota to answer to those charges.

The Georgia police department made sure to clarify that its department was not involved in the incident. At the time of Baynes’s escape at the airport, He had already been turned over to officials from Minnesota.

Multiple agencies including authorities from the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Pooler Police Department, and Chatham County Sheriff’s Office are searching the wooded areas near the airport’s main parking lot for the escapee.

Police have made it clear that the search for Baynes is an active investigation. The spokesperson for the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport has confirmed that the investigation has caused no interruptions to airport operations.
