Shop NowI have no idea what the Philadelphia 76ers were thinking in getting rid of Doc Rivers as their head coach.
This man guided a team that has floundered for years to Game 7 of the conference semifinals, and he was rewarded with a pink slip.
Rivers is out after only three seasons, showing upward progression the entire time.
Time to Make Changes
Rivers had a career playing for more than a decade before he took on coaching.
He entered the league in 1983 and retired in 1996.
After a three-year hiatus, he jumped into coaching, hired by the Orlando Magic in 1999.
He would go on to coach the Celtics, Clippers, and the 76ers.
As a coach, he led the Celtics to a championship, won coach of the year in 2000, and is considered one of the top 15 coaches all-time in the NBA… And the 76ers just let him go…
Sixers officially announce that they've parted ways with Doc Rivers.

The knock is that Rivers lost in the first round his first two years, then got knocked out in the second round during his third year, so it was time to move on.
I say it takes time for players to get experience in playoff situations and that chemistry can often take a few years to build, then BOOM… you have a dynasty.
Rivers was one game away from the conference finals, clearly making progress, and they canned him.
This team has been floundering for two decades, so this just makes no sense at all to me.
I would ask the people celebrating his dismissal this… who are they going to get that is better than Rivers?
