Shop NowThe Austin, TX, Police Chief has finally had enough.
With decreased funding and low morale, he is finally calling it quits.
Austin Police Department Chief Joseph Chacon announced his resignation this week.
Enough Already
Since 2020, the city council has declared war against local police in Austin.
The police force was defunded by about $150 million, or a third of its annual budget.
Morale and recruitment have hit all-time lows.
The local police are so understaffed, 9-1-1 calls are not being prioritized, with people often waiting hours for police to show up.
Chief Chacon has agreed to stay on for a brief period as an adviser to help the transition over to a new chief.
In the meantime, Chief of Staff Robin Henderson will serve as interim chief.
Chacon stated, “This is one of the hardest messages that I’ve ever had to write.
“A few months ago, I began seriously considering retirement and after long conversations with my wife and family, and thoughtful prayer, I have now made the decision that the moment is right to hang it up on a 25-year career with APD.”
Jennifer Hackney-Szimanski of Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas (CLEAT) added, “Austin will never be able to retain an experienced, well-rounded chief for any amount of time with a Council who refuses to ratify a contract and a DA who removes less lethal options and continues to harass LEOs.”
Austin is loaded with progressives that buy into everything that is woke, and they want to do away with police altogether, so they will be delighted to hear this news.
That delight will last until one of their homes is broken into or they are assaulted on the street by some thug.
Then let’s see who they call.
