There was an interesting development that recently took place that went right under the radar.

Governor Ron DeSantis was campaigning in Iowa and he was put on the spot for a VP choice.

He ended up tossing out a name that I never considered, but it could help him in his battle against Trump for one specific reason.

Great VP Choice

Donald Trump recently went after Republican Governor Kim Gardner.

Trump wanted her endorsement, and she did not want to endorse anyone in the primary, which is not exactly a unique positions, as there are plenty of politicians that prefer to let the voters decide the primary, then they back the candidate in the general.

Well, Trump endorsed Gardner, and Trump demands loyalty, so when Gardner did not endorse him in the primary, he went off on her.

Trump posted, “I opened up the Governor position for Kim Reynolds, & when she fell behind, I ENDORSED her, did big Rallies, & she won.

“Now, she wants to remain ‘NEUTRAL.’ I don’t invite her to events,”

She was side-by-side with DeSantis, and he was asked if he would consider her as a VP.

DeSantis did not hesitate, responding, “Of course. I mean, she’s one of the top public servants in America.

“I thought the attacks on her were totally, totally out of hand and totally unnecessary.

“We should be thanking good Republican officeholders.

“You know, we kind of joke about the Iowa-Florida [competition] — sometimes they do things before us, sometimes we do.

“But honestly, I want them to do better than us because it’s healthy.

“When Republicans are doing well, I like that. I don’t get jealous of that. I want to see them do well.

“And so, they’ve done a great job, and I think she’s been a model public servant, and anybody who’s a Republican that’s trying to denigrate her I think is way off base on that.”

If DeSantis were to decide on someone like Gardner earlier rather than later, it could start to pull some votes, and make no mistake about it, that rant by Trump cost him support in Iowa.

For instance, Iowa State Senator Jeff Riechman (R-50th) stated, “Trump is very outspoken. We’ve come to expect that, and that’s fine when it was focused at the right people.

“And then this week, when it became focused on our governor … I felt like it was the right thing to do to look out for our governor, our home team here. Keeping that in mind, I decided to pull my endorsement for Trump.”

Trump still has a double-digit lead over DeSantis, but that number went down after those comments.

Trump really needs to stop trying to destroy every person that does not stand behind him and focus on the issues.

If he does that, this election is a joke, but if he keeps attacking solid Republicans, it will hurt him, maybe not in the primary, but definitely in the general.
