Career HHS bureaucrats are having major doubts about their job security. Former Democrat and vocal anti-vaxxer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has been named to run the Department of Health and Human Services. One of his priorities is the controversial removal of fluoride from drinking water, nationwide.

New HHS management

Most conservatives didn’t see the pick of RFK Jr., as HHS secretary, blowing in the wind but the decision makes perfect sense. Now that it’s been announced. A year ago he was running against Donald Trump as a Democrat candidate for president.

That didn’t work out and neither did his independent bid. Since he can’t beat Trump, Kennedy decided to join him and Make America Healthy Again.

RFK Jr will fit right in. “He has been referred to as an anti-vaxxer, COVID-denier, and overall conspiracy theorist.” His background as an environmental lawyer should help HHS quite a bit. He’s expected to bring “a breath of fresh air to a political environment entrenched by industrial lobbies.

It’s no secret, The Watchdog writes, “that Americans are unhealthy.” That’s because “Americans are plagued by lifestyle-caused diseases like obesity, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and more.” Kennedy is convinced the culprit is “our food.

We spend more than any other major country on health care yet have “some of the worst health outcomes in the world.” Kennedy agrees with Brazilian epidemiologist Carlos Monteiro. Back in the last century, Monteiro “became curious about rising obesity rates in his home country.” His research found things HHS never looked for.

He launched a study into the eating habits of Brazilians and found that there were two distinct camps, one based on the traditional diet of home-cooked meals and the other composed of what are now known as ultra-processed foods.” That may sound familiar.

Make America Healthy Again.

How much processing

The key to good nutrition, the Brazilian study concluded, is minimal processing. “From this research, he came up with the NOVA method of food classification, which categorizes food by the amount of industrial processing done to it, ignoring the long-revered nutritional hallmarks of nutrients and calories.

Kennedy wants to bring that concept to HHS. Even though American doctors are finally starting to acknowledge “that these foods are detrimental to good health,” they’re doing nothing to stop it.

Here in America, “73% of our food supply is composed of ultra-processed foods, and over 50% of the American diet is ultra-processed.” That’s not his only hot button issue.

It doesn’t help that health agencies are “sock puppets of the industries they are supposed to regulate” and that “the government approves poisons in our food.” HHS can and should be doing something about that. Several “additives, pesticides, and growth hormones permitted in American food are banned from Europe and other countries due to safety concerns.

Kennedy promises that he’ll run HHS “more strictly by increasing regulations and making sure that officials have no conflict of interest.” Another of his high priorities is the removal of fluoride from drinking water.

The mineral is intended to prevent dental cavities but the method used to put it into the water makes it worse than useless, doing much more harm than the intended good. Getting the liberal pet project reversed was a whole lot harder than getting it put in place but that’s exactly the sort of battle Kennedy is looking forward to waging as HHS secretary.
