Shop NowCan you imagine walking away from $10.5 million?
That is what New York Jets WR Corey Davis just did.
The former #5 overall pick has decided to call it quits after only six years in the league.
Frustrations
I can understand why Davis is frustrated.
Being picked fifth overall, you are supposed to be a top 10 WR in the league, period.
Unfortunately, he had very little talent under center to help him out.
That just changed, however, with the signing of Aaron Rodgers, which is why I am so shocked he is walking away from the game.
He stood to make $10.5 million this year, and if he had a breakout year, he could have named his price in the FA market.
Davis stated, “For some time now I’ve been contemplating stepping away from the sport of football.
“This decision has not been easy. Although I am a deep person, I am a man of few words.
“I’ve been searching my heart for what to do and I feel that stepping away from the game is the best path for me at this time.
“I have more blessings than I could have ever imagined – I have an amazing family, a beautiful wife and two healthy children that I look forward to spending more time with.
“I am truly grateful for all the opportunities I have had and will continue to have on my journey.
“Thank you to my family and friends and the Jets organization for supporting me through this process.”
I am sure this is a big disappointment for Rodgers, but he still has a very good corps of wideouts to chuck the ball to, starting with Garrett Wilson.
And it will not be all new to him, as former Packers Allen Lazard and Randal Cobb are now suiting up for the Jets.
