That is the concern people are having right now.
China just had 37 million test positive in a single day.
Here We Go Again
Since the month of December started, 248 million Chinese have tested positive.
That is almost 20 percent of the country’s population getting the virus over the space of three weeks.
This has raised concerns that there may be a new strain going around.
Daniel Lucey, a fellow at the Infectious Diseases Society of America and professor at Dartmouth University’s Geisel School of Medicine, is one of them.
He stated, “There will certainly be more omicron subvariants developing in China in the coming days, weeks and months, but what the world must anticipate in order to recognize it early and take rapid action is a completely new variant of concern.
“It could be more contagious, more deadly, or evade drugs, vaccines and detection from existing diagnostics.”
Keep in mind, it was only recently that China had lifted its “Zero Covid” policy.
This can be looked at in two different ways.
Was the lockdown preventing the massive spread?
Or, because of the strict lockdowns, did people’s immune systems become weaker against the virus, leading to this massive outbreak?
To this point, another strain has not been detected, at least not yet.
Hu Xijin, the former editor-in-chief of the state-aligned newspaper the Global Times, is begging the government not to start locking down again.
He wrote, “We cannot let the service secor such as tourism get decimated.
“We cannot let more people lose jobs or wages.
“We cannot have children who cannot go to school in a normal way, or families who cannot reunite upon holidays.”
