Now there’s something you don’t see every day.

A power outage occurred in the lower area of Sayreville, New Jersey on Saturday due to an unexpected source.

According to the Sayreville Police Department, it appears that a bird of prey had caught a fish and dropped it on one of the town’s transformers causing significant damage.

It is believed that it was an osprey, or sea hawk, who caused this disruption to the local community.

The transformer was destroyed as well as 2,100 customers losing power for two hours until Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) was able to repair the damage.

The Lieutenant in charge of the case provided his hypothesis that a bird had dropped its catch onto one of their transformers causing extensive damage.

He also told NJ Advance Media “It just landed perfectly and destroyed the transformer”.

The police department released humorous posts about it on their Facebook page including suspect sketches and crime scene photos which lightened up some residents who were greatly inconvenienced by this incident.

They even gave credit to “Gilligan” – referring to the fish – as being a hardworking family man and father to thousands of children.

A JCP&L spokesman commented humorously saying “We also send our thoughts to the osprey – if you’ve ever dropped your ice cream cone at the fair, you know the feeling.”

Various blogs from power companies have reported that animals frequently cause outages across all states such as raccoons and squirrels chewing insulation off wires or damaging other infrastructure components necessary for electricity delivery.

Even though these stories often seem comical at first thought, they can be quite costly when dealing with repairs and lost time due to lack of electricity supply.

That is why many companies take extra safety precautions like relocating nests located too close near power lines or putting up deterrents like noise makers in order protect nearby areas from further destruction.
