Last week Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell was hospitalized after falling at a fundraising event. Now it seems that the injuries the Senator sustained were more grievous than originally reported. McConnell will now be receiving treatment at a rehab facility after being released from the hospital.

The Senator’s spokesperson stated to the press that the longtime Kentucky Senator left George Washington University Hospital for the rehab facility on Monday, March 13th.

On the previous Wednesday was when Mitch McConnell tripped during a Republican fundraising event at the Waldorf Astoria hotel, formerly the Trump Hotel, in Washington D.C.

Senator Mitch McConnell’s communications director, David Popp, came out with a statement to the press explaining the minority leader’s next steps in his treatment plan.

“At the advice of his physician, the next step will be a period of physical therapy at an inpatient rehabilitation facility before he returns home.”

“The Leader and Secretary Chao are deeply thankful for the skilled medical care, prayers, and kindness they have received,” Popp said for McConnell and his wife Elaine Chao.

Popp went on to reveal that Senator McConnell had actually sustained more injuries than previously disclosed reported. The Republican Senate Minority leader also suffered a “minor rib fracture” in the accident, as well as the concussion revealed in previous reporting.

In an interview with CNN, a Senate Aide to Mitch McConnell claimed that the Senator could be in the care of the facility for a timeframe spanning from days to weeks.

“That decision will be made by the leader’s physicians and the therapists,” explained the Spokesperson.

“It is very common to undergo physical therapy to regain strength after a hospital stay and this ranges anywhere from a week to two weeks,” he added.

McConnell could potentially break the record of the longest-serving party leader if he can return to his work. He will tie the record for longest-serving party leader in senate history next year.
