Shop NowA tragic accident occurred during a performance by the Chinese acrobat couple Sun Moumou and Zhang Moumou in Hougao village of Anhui province.
The wife was hoisted into the air while her husband held onto her legs.
In an unfortunate turn of events, Sun lost her grip and fell to the ground from 30 feet above.
She was rushed to a hospital but could not be saved, leaving many questions unanswered about why no safety measures were in place.
Sun and Zhang had been performing for quite some time and were experienced acrobats.
However, local reports claim that when it came to their performances they would often leave out safety lines “for the sake of looking good” according to The Paper.
On top of this, there have been claims that the two had been arguing before taking the stage for this particular routine which has made people question whether or not this might have caused the tragedy.
Although Zhang denies fighting with his wife prior to the performance he declined to provide any further information as he is still “in the middle of…dealing with all of this” according to Yangzi Evening News.
All other performances associated with Sun and Zhang were cancelled following their tragedy.
Authorities are now conducting an in-depth investigation into what went wrong and how they can prevent something like this from ever happening again.
It has also been reported that those responsible for running the show had already received a fine earlier this year for “holding commercial performances without approval” according to Global Times.
