Shop NowIt looks like Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) is about to sell out to get power.
McCarthy appears to be ready to make a deal with a small contingent of the GOP caucus to ensure that he is elected Speaker on January 3.
This is far better than the alternative of make a deal with Dems.
They Win
There are just a handful of Republicans that do not want McCarthy to be Speaker.
One of the demands they had was that a new rule be put in place where any member of the caucus could call for the Speaker to step down.
Currently, only another leader can call for a vote.
Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) stated, “Every member of Congress was elected to legislate on behalf of their constituents. To do that, members must be able to hold their own leadership accountable.”
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) added, “While difficult in practice, it is an important mechanism to restore trust and provide accountability.”
This is insurance for McCarthy to stand up to McConnell and Biden.
I am all for this because I still do not believe that McCarthy has the backbone to deliver.
