Shop NowDonald Trump is now trying to separate from some of his fellow defendants.
This is probably the first of several moves that Trump will make to push this Georgia trial back.
Trump’s attorneys, and rightfully so, believe having only two months to prepare for a 98-page indictment is simply not enough time.
No Speedy Trial
Several of Trump’s fellow defendants want their speedy trial… Donald Trump does not.
In the filing to sever the case, his attorney stated, “Respectfully, requiring less than two months preparation time to defend a 98-page indictment, charging 19 defendants, with 41 various charges including a RICO conspiracy charge … would violate President Trump’s federal and state constitutional rights to a fair trial and due process of law.”
Right now, the Georgia case is slated to start on October 23, which is utterly ridiculous.
Trump’s defense team has a mountain of evidence to go through to prepare his defense.
If he is successful in getting this case delayed, it will likely be pushed back significantly because of the other trial dates that have already been set.
Trump has the January 6 case slated for March, Alvin Bragg is May, and the documents case after that.
They have made sure that these cases are stacked up so that Trump is busy for the entire primary schedule.
More importantly, they have set these cases up so that if Trump is found guilty, the GOP will be in complete turmoil, especially if Trump is disqualified from running for office.
I have no doubt this is very much their plan to derail the GOP so Biden can win again in 2024.
