He’s Come Out of the Shadows and Exposed the DOJ

The first of two high profile IRS whistleblowers came out of the shadows to reveal his identity. He’s also cluing the public in about “infighting” over the allegedly biased investigation of Hunter Biden for tax fraud.

IRS whistleblower comes out

On Thursday, May 25, reports surfaced that the IRS insider who’s been working with Congress “has revealed himself by name for the first time after filing an anonymous whistleblower disclosure.

He’s upset over the handling of what’s been loosely called “an investigation” of Hunter Biden and all his foreign income streams.

Until now, the IRS insider has been going through his attorney, Mark D. Lytle of Nixon Peabody LLP. Lytle revealed the existence of his client’s whistleblower complaint back in April with a letter he wrote on the 19th to members of Congress. Since then, the lawyer, in conjunction with whistleblower advocacy group Empower Oversight, “have alleged retaliation against the then-unnamed IRS agent.

On Wednesday, the agent outed himself on CBS. He’s recently been removed from the investigation in an action his lawyer says is clearly retaliatory and may also constitute “obstruction of a congressional inquiry.

In an interview that aired Wednesday night, “the IRS whistleblower revealed himself as Gary Shapley, a 14-year veteran of the agency.” He’s not an ultra-right-wing MAGA Republican but is “an IRS supervisory special agent.” He personally was assigned to the investigation in January of 2020. It may have been in progress before that.

I don’t want to do any of this. I took an oath of office and when I saw the egregiousness of some of these things, it no longer became a choice for me. It’s not something that I want to do. It’s something I feel like I have to do.

Tax secrecy laws

Shapely has not specifically identified who was under investigation because the laws are so strict on secrecy. Everyone knows that the IRS investigation is into Hunter Biden.

Neither Shapley nor his legal representatives have directly named Hunter Biden as the subject” of what they’ve called an “ongoing and sensitive investigation of a high-profile, controversial subject.

They might not be talking but “Empower Oversight has retweeted a CBS News report that named the [alleged] president’s son as the subject of the investigation.” Hunter, himself, confirmed that “the U.S. Attorney’s office in Delaware had been investigating his taxes.” The IRS would be in on that.

Shapley’s attorney already went on record to declare that “his client’s disclosures would contradict sworn testimony to Congress by a ‘senior political appointee‘ and involve ‘failure to mitigate clear conflicts of interest.

That suggests to a lot of people inside the beltway that the appointee is Merrick Garland and he lied about David Weiss having the authority to bring the charges that need to be brought. That could be why no charges have been filed after all this time.

One thing the lawyer knows for sure, his client’s disclosures show “examples of preferential treatment and politics improperly infecting decisions and protocols that would normally be followed by career law enforcement professionals in similar circumstances if the subject were not politically connected.” In other words, the Deep State is alive and well at the IRS.
