Teenager MURDERS His Grandparents…Sentenced to LIFE in Prison

Wisconsin teenager Alexander M. Kraus has been sentenced to life in prison for murdering his grandparents in 2019.

On April 14, 2019, Kraus called 911 to report that he had killed in grandparents in their own home.

Then 17-year-old Kraus explained to the emergency dispatcher that he “needed to be arrested by the police,” according to the criminal complaint.

The bodies of 74-year-old Dennis Kraus and 73-year-old Leah Kraus were discovered by authorities.

Officers also found the teenagers backpack, which held the teen’s typed plan on how to murder his grandparents.

Kraus was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, both of which he pled guilty to.

“I love my grandparents,” he told the court. “I’m so sorry.”

During his 2021 trial, Kraus attempted to argue that he did not understand what he had done wrong due to mental illness.

However, the jury did not agree.

The county’s district attorney requested that the teenager be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility for parole, stating “I do not believe the community is or will be safe with the defendant in it.”

She continued on to say, “I also believe significant punishment for the horrific murder of two wonderful people in our community is not only appropriate but is expected.”

Judge Metropoulos sentenced Kraus to serve a minimum of 20 years for each of the two charges, after which he will be eligible to petition for supervised release.
