The greatest female golfer of all time has passed away.
Only it is probably a name that most people do not know unless they are diehard golf fans.
Kathy Whitworth, who won a total of 88 professional tournaments, passed away this week at the age of 83.
Number 88
Whitworth scored her first title win in 1962 at the Kelly Girls Open.
She would break the record of 82 tournament wins set by Mickey Wright two decades later at the Lady Michelob.
Three years later, she would notch her final win, taking down the United Virginia Bank Classic in 1985.
When all was said and done, Whitworth had won 88 tournaments, more than any male or female golfer had in the history of the game.
Whitworth stands above Sam Snead, Tiger Woods, and Mickey Wright, all of whom had 82 wins.
In her prime, Whitworth dominated the game, winning the LGPA Player of the Year honors seven out of eight years in a row.
She also won the AP Female Athlete of the year twice.
