Shop NowIf anything, the pandemic taught us that the two parties handle emergencies in vastly different ways.
Who you believe is better at handling said emergency is up to each individual, however it’s clear that conservative politicians focus on protecting freedoms while also keeping citizens safe.
Such is the case with Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders who recently called for a special session of the legislature to discuss vaccine mandates among other issues, while New Mexico’s progressive leader works to limit gun rights in the name of public health.

During her announcement, Sanders noted that restrictions enacted in 2020 “trampled on our liberty,” and promised not to let something like that happen again in Arkansas.
She also asked the state’s Department of Health to “publicize the potential risks related” so that people can make informed decisions about their health.
On top of that, she emphasized wanting “to limit the growth of government before government could limit the growth of liberty.”
On the other hand, progressive governors opt for increased power over all else during public health crises – no matter what cost.
A prime example is Michelle Lujan Grisham’s executive order recently issued that bans firearms carrying in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County regardless if they possess legal permits or not.
The governor claims this is supposed to spark debate on how best address gun violence however, many disagree with this approach as those with legal permits have presumably gone through background checks and safety training already thus deeming them exempt from such actions being taken against them indiscriminately.
Senate Minority Leader Greg Baca pointed out this clear flaw saying “A child is murdered, the perpetrator is still on the loose, and what does the governor do? She throws the mayor of Albuquerque under the bus and then targets law-abiding citizens with an unconstitutional gun order.”
