California’s Democrat Governor, Gavin Newsom, is in damage control mode. He dropped everything to fly into D.C. for a summit with the state’s congressional representatives. His panic is obvious. The stated reason for his junket is “a push to protect California’s policies from President-elect Trump.”
Democrat damage control
It’s all about the control of fossil fuel energy and California’s role implementing progressive “climate change” policies. For years, they’ve had the benefit of a federal waiver that allows the state to determine their own environmental regulation standards.
They managed to totally cripple their own economy while destroying the auto industry at the same time. Now that Donald Trump’s back in power, with a Republican controlled House and Senate to back him up, he’s nearly unstoppable. One of the first items on his agenda is ripping up California’s special waiver.
As an excuse to meet face to face with the state’s members of Congress to do Trump related damage control, Newsom rushed to the Capitol begging for money. He’s “seeking a $5.2 billion reimbursement for emergency funding.”
Like Alejandro Mayorkas at the federal level, Newsom spent all the arson fire money in his budget expediting the illegal alien invasion. He also wants cash to update the state’s Medicaid program. His first round of meetings will be with Biden officials to berate them into writing him a few checks.
Newsom jetted off to Washington on Monday with damage control meetings scheduled through Tuesday and a return Wednesday.
Most of Tuesday’s expected to be spent huddled with California’s Congressional representatives to kick around their options. They don’t have many and none are leaking out to the liberal media.
A special proclamation
The governor’s jaunt to the east coast “comes less than a week after he issued a proclamation to convene a special session of the state Legislature in December.”
He called the emergency session “to safeguard his policies, particularly those regarding the climate, immigration and reproductive freedoms.” They’re about to lose control of all those progressive hot-button issues at once.
Californian’s are still sensitive about the way Trump treated them when he held office the first time. The Democrats have a few tricks up their sleeves. “California has faced this challenge before, and we know how to respond,” Newsom assures terrified liberals.
“We will do everything necessary to ensure Californians have the support and resources they need to thrive.” That’s going to be a huge challenge since Democrats lost control of the Senate.
When Trump heard about Newsom’s proclamation, he took to his Truth Social platform to chuckle about it. “He is using the term ‘Trump-Proof‘ as a way of stopping all of the GREAT things that can be done to ‘Make California Great Again,‘” Trump tapped out. Newsom and his cronies don’t have control anymore, Trump does. “but I just overwhelmingly won the Election.”
All the residents of California with an ounce of sense are moving somewhere less Democratic. “People are being forced to leave due to his, & other’s, INSANE POLICY DECISIONS.” Once that waiver’s gone, all those “California emissions standards” will go in the trash with it. The weather will take care of itself.
