Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Mayorkas’ day of reckoning appears to be approaching.
Reports recently surfaced that the House may soon put legislation on the floor to impeach him.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is reportedly the Republican who will sponsor the resolution.
Time to Go
I doubt anyone reading this will be surprised that Greene is the one pushing this legislation.
My understanding of the report is that she may put the resolution on the floor with an option to table the motion.
This has two purposes, the first of which could protect some Republicans who are not in favor or impeaching Mayorkas.
The second is that this is, in essence, overriding the usual process, which will serve to give Democrats more ammunition against the GOP in the upcoming election.
Now, I am all for impeaching Mayorkas, but I see two problems here.
First, don’t put the motion on the floor unless you are assured of having 100 percent support from the GOP caucus.
Second, if Senator Schumer (D-N.Y.) does not floor this legislation in the Senate, it is just a big waste of time.
Greene needs to do her homework here and make sure there is support among border-state Democrats that this can actually pass in the Senate to put pressure on Schumer to floor it.
Otherwise, this is nothing more than a publicity stunt for her campaign that will actually hurt Republicans as a whole.
